Just when you think you have all the details of your wedding day planned, someone asks, “Where are you going for pictures?” There’s a brief “deer in headlights” moment of panic until thoughts of Kansas City’s many iconic landmarks creep in your mind: Union Station, Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, The Nelson Art Gallery, and Liberty Memorial, just to name a few. These are all phenomenal locations, BUT there are still so many more! So we compiled the Top 10 Wedding Photo Spots in Kansas City to save you some time.
There are some hidden (and not so hidden) gems that people don’t always think of and those are the ones I want to share with the help of a few wedding photographer friends!

1. THE WESTIN CROWN CENTER – ROOFTOP DECK
This might be my personal favorite. The outdoor, rooftop deck gives a clear view of Kansas City’s skyline. The photos I’ve seen taken here are definitely mantle worthy!
2. KC LIFE BUILDING
This beauty was built in 1924 and stands just as proudly now as the day it was built. Bailey Pianalto Photography says, “It’s gray marble walls, entrance steps, and expertly crafted grand doors give images taken here a classic old-world backdrop that can be a nice break from the often-seen limestone facades of popular KC locations.”
3. THE LIBRARY DISTRICT
Rivas Photography says that if you’re looking for somewhere private that’s right in the middle of the city, this is the place for you. This block holds the library’s rooftop (I’m such a sucker for a rooftop) and tree lined streets with city scrapers that make the perfect backdrop!
4. 14TH STREET IN THE POWER & LIGHT DISTRICT
You read that right. A street! Yes, you’ll have to stop traffic to get that perfect shot and yes, photographer’s might be grumpy that I’ve shared this location because they’re usually the ones battling the cars, but it’s worth it. This spot was at the top of Claire Ryser Photography’s list and looking at the photo, we can see why!
5. LOOSE PARK
If nature is your happy place, you’re going to want to make a stop here. Elizabeth of eGolden Moments said this is her go-to because there’s no shortage of beautiful scenery. I must warn you, this is a busy place, but like eGolden Moments said, “If you have the patience to deal with the people, it’s worth it since you’ll experience a Rose Garden unlike anything else in the city.”
6. THE WEST BOTTOMS
This area is jam packed with photo opportunity! “You won’t find flowers or pretty greenery, but you will find unique buildings, bridges and graffiti covered alleys,” says eGolden Moments. You’ll be tempted to take a picture by the railroad tracks, but don’t. It’s illegal!
7. TWINKLING LIGHTS OF CROWN CENTER
This one is seasonal but so good that I had to include it. If your wedding day falls anywhere near the winter holidays, you won’t be disappointed with this backdrop of over 7,000 white lights! You’ll feel like you stepped right into a Hallmark Christmas movie. Netanya’s Pix Photography adds that with the sun setting so early in the winter, this is a great location for light.
8. THE GROUNDS OF THE KANSAS CITY CONVENTION CENTER
Another one of my personal faves! At the corner of 16th and Central Street, you’ll find the back of The Kansas City Convention Center. The clean lines of the building and the floor to ceiling windows give way to a crisp, modern look for your photos. Bonus: the windows have just the perfect amount of tint to catch The Kauffman Center of Performing Arts in the reflection.
9. THE COLONNADE
This is the hidden gem. So hidden, that I was asked by a few photographers not to share it, but what’s a story without a little feather ruffling?! The Colonnade oozes with romance and makes you feel like a little piece of Rome exists right here in Kansas City.
10. PHOTOGRAPHER’S CHOICE
Okay, so this isn’t exactly a location, but it is a sound piece of advice from an experienced wedding planner (ahem, that’s me!)… ask your photographer! They’ll have ideas on where to go based on your style, location, and weather. If it’s a spot they love, their creativity will shine through, which means you’ll get some really amazing photos.
